Room Remodel Challenge – Living Room Remodel – Part 2
Hi all! Here’s part 2 of my living room remodel. In Part 1 I went over my prep work, baseboards and door sidings I picked out. For this part I’m going to share the finishing touches I made and how i decorated it!
Window Extension
One of the things I wanted done in this room was extend the ledge of the picture window. When I bought new windows to the home, I decided to go with a picture window which faced the front of my home. If you don’t know what a picture window is, it’s essentially a stationary window that can’t be opened or closed, and are one pane of glass. Picture windows also don’t have those horizontal and vertical dividers you often see in windows. And of course, since this type of window doesn’t open, there’s no need for a screen!
This window in particular sits about 8 to 10 inches from the ground, but there was no ledge after I had a new window installed. So I decided to have it expanded by 6 inches so that I could at least put some potted plants and decor by the ledge. I ended up going with a 6 inch primed window stool ledge. You can find this in the trims and moldings sections of your nearest Lowes and Home Depot
It comes in Primed MDF or Primed wood (I recommend getting the wood version).
Then, in order to give it some support, I placed a 2 x 2 wood board just below it and secured it against the stud. I then covered this board with some thick molding for added support. In the photo above, you can see I’ve decorated it with some pots and plants I got from Ikea. The mini greenhouse is also from Ikea and I absolutely love it!
Unfortunately, the one I have is out of stock now (although you can probably still find it on eBay but you’ll pay a premium for one since its been depreciated from IKEA stores). IKEA’s got similar ones, check them out!

The plants are also from IKEA along with that watering can you see on the side – however that is also out of stock, sorry! There are plenty of cute and modern indoor watering can options on Amazon though!

I’m all about color when it comes to decorating. I like to keep my walls, floors and trim/baseboards very basic and simple colored – sticking to only whites and grays. This way I’ve got a blank canvas to work with and I can incorporate as much or as little color as I want!
Of course my dog has to be in just about every photo I take so don’t mind her!
I chose a colorful, abstract rug. I believe this was an 8 ft. x 10 ft rug, which I found on Wayfair for a great price during their Black Friday sale.
And it’s still in stock on Wayfair (its a super popular, Instagrammable rug!): Mistana Galan Abstract Rug
As for the sofa, I got this along with the side table at RoomsToGo. I’ve had really great buying experiences at RoomsToGo and I’ve purchased several sets from them. I usually like to wait around Black Friday timeframe since they have their $100 coupon (buy something now and get $100 to spend later)

The pillows come with the sofa when you make a sofa and chaise combined purchase! They also threw in a free end table. All this was purchased during Black Friday so if you’re thinking of getting a sofa wait until Black Friday and go to RoomsToGo!
On the other corner of my living room I placed a small loveseat. I actually got this chair for free from a company that wanted me to promote their website! I love it although it’s a bit small. It’s really intended for small spaces like an apartment.
Here’s Cupcake my little fur baby, relaxing on my corner chair.
Before I purchased my home, I had a condo and this chair fit perfectly with the rest of my decor. I brought it over with me when I moved since I love it so much!
Over time, I did add more small furnishings here and there. Stay tuned as I’ll share more photos of my decor!
