My review of one Michelin star Restaurant “Restaurant 360”

During our trip to Croatia we decided to dine at a one Michelin star rated fine dining restaurant called Restaurant 360. This restaurant is located inside the beautiful Old Town of Dubrovnik.

As you enter the main entrance of the Old Town, walk past the famous Revelin nightclub and immediately to your left you will see the entrance to the Michelin star restaurant. You can’t miss it as it’s got a large crimson banner.

The entrance is beautiful and we were taken to the right and through a hallway, then immediately up the stairs where we were seated on the rooftop facing the water. It is quite the view! You’ll be able to see ships coming in and out of the small port.

The menu is set up as a tasting menu. You get to choose either two or three dishes. Two dishes are approximately 100 euro and three is approximately 150 euro. I chose two dishes while Michael chose three. We went with another couple who are very close to us and decided to go on this wonderful trip together!

Oh, and before I get into the menu, they do have mocktail selection (approximately 3 or 4 to choose from, if I can remember)! I’m not a big drinker and I actually forgot what I ordered but it was so delicious! The rest of us got alcoholic beverages.

For my dishes, I decided to go with the calamari which you can find under Act ll. And for my second dish, of course I am going to choose the sea bass! It was actually a tough call because they also had a gnocchi dish and I couldn’t decide between the two. But I did end up going with the sea bass and Michael decided to go with the gnocchi (Act lll) so we could try each other’s dish out. Michael also wanted to try out their Beef Shank (Act ll) and their Oysters (Act l) dishes

They started us off with some bread as these fine dining restaurants usually do. They were all very good. Paired with the breads were four different types of butters lightly mixed with different flavors. I don’t remember all of the flavors, but one of my favorites was the pistachio (depicted in the green) and the strawberry (colored pink). The butter has just a hint of the pistachio and strawberry taste.

In addition to the bread tasting, they also had us try two smaller dishes which we were told to eat with our hands. The left was a sort of tuna tatare style finger food on a thick crisp chip, and onto the right, were two smaller bites. I believe the left most one was somewhat sweet tasting. All very good finger foods to start off for the main dishes!

Our Act l and ll dishes came first. I really liked the taste of my calamari dish. I was surprised as to how they cooked it because I had in mind that it would be fried or somewhat crispy. However, I was still pleasantly surprised with the taste and the presentation. And I especially loved the little rounded calamari with the citrus gel on top. The two sweet yet salty flavors went very well together. The presentation was adorable as well! Michael’s dishes were great too. He said he would like to the presentation and the scallops. I’m not a huge scallop fan so I passed on tasting his dish.

After our first set of dishes, we were greeted with our second dishes. I got the sea bass and Michael had the beef shank. I’m also not a red meat person so I once again did not have a piece of Michael’s dish. For me, this sea bass was not as great as I was expecting. I’ve had much better sea bass dishes elsewhere at non-michelin star restaurants. The top of sea bass is actually the skin of the fish including the scales which I guess they turned it into a crisp thin layer that you can eat. I wasn’t really a fan. It tasted a little too burnt and a little too salty for me but I ate the whole dish, nevertheless. However, I did like the sauce that came with it (they call it fennel foam) – it tasted good and added more flavor to the seabass. And it wasn’t too salty.

Michael also did like his beef shank however, he did say it was a very small portion. One of our friends did order the oysters (again, I am not an oysters fan but I had to take a photo. It was too cute not to!) and they gave a good amount of oysters for the dish.

Of course to end the night we had to get some dessert! One of our friends is a huge sorbet lover and he asked if the restaurant had any other flavors of sorbet. They did in fact have three flavors: mango, strawberry and vanilla which was an off menu item but was presented to us on a dish in three separate scoops.

And Michael and I ordered this chocolate cherry caramel cream dessert with chocolate covered almonds and small red chocolate cherry beans. It was absolutely delicious. Probably the best dish out of all of the ones for the dinner, haha.

Once we were done with all of our dishes and dessert, we were given small dessert tastings presented on a wooden board with coffee beans. All of the tastings were very good. My favorite was the leftmost green finger dessert item which was a cream pistachio wafer. I did also like the chocolate fudge!

Besides the food, restaurant roof view was incredible! Especially at night. We actually got really lucky and witnessed a full moon the very night we had dinner there. The way the moonlight glistened against the water and the port. It was such a romantic scene. Also the spot is great for photo taking because on the left side of the building they have their Restaurant 360 logo illuminated against the brick wall. On the right side you see part of the Old Town fortress which is also great for photo taking!

Would I rate this a 1 Michelin star? I have been thinking about this a lot and I am sure there is a calculated reasoning and set of steps as to why restaurants get rated the way they do. It is more than just what the food tastes like and the presentation itself. It is also small things, for example, at least one dish of all the dishes that your party orders for your dinner must be placed at the same time for all party members attending. This of course happened for all of our dishes, but it is something that most people are not aware of. Most of the dishes I thought were great, and tasted decently. I absolutely loved the dessert and the calamari dish. My sea bass dish, unfortunately, left something to be desired and I wish it wasn’t so salty and having a burnt taste. But the waiters and the staff were very pleasant. And all of the extras that we received were icing on the top!
