My Review of Three Michelin Star Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare
Before embarking on our long weekend trip to New York City, we made sure to make a few reservations at some of the highly rated restaurants in the Big Apple.
My Chef’s Table Brooklyn Fare Review
Of course we had to try out Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare. This restaurant is rated a three Michelin star and is renowned for their 20 course tasting menu. Their food consists of a French and Japanese type cuisine and flavors.
This restaurant required a reservation which we had to do a month in advance. We were very fortunate to get a reservation for the Saturday evening while in New York.
At first you might be confused because upon checking their website it brings you to their grocery store website. However, the neat thing about this restaurant is that it acts as sort of a speakeasy in that you have to walk through the grocery store to get to the restaurant at the back. Here’s a video of me walking through the store to get to the entrance of Chef’s Table.
When you enter the restaurant, it is a totally different vibe and you immediately feel like you are in a fine dining restaurant. The ambiance and the lighting is a little bit lighter than I would expect for a fine restaurant, but it was still a beautiful space nevertheless.
the inside of the restaurant has a large bar or omakase style area and surrounding it are tables for larger groups. We were seated in the bar area since it was just the two of us. Here’s a video of the space.
The people there and the chefs were very accommodating and highly educated on the menu and what and where each ingredient comes from along with how it is made and cooked. They do not have a menu for you to read from, however they do have a very extensive wine menu. This is in omakase style fine dining restaurant, therefore you are at the mercy of the chef and what he makes.
There were many small courses and all had very beautiful presentations. I am not going to go through each course but I do have photos of each one laid out for you to review. They do offer some upgrades for some of the courses. For example, you can add some caviar or extra wagyu for specific courses, which of course, come with an added cost.
Everything was delicious for the most part. My favorite of course, were the desserts and the way that they were presented to us. My favorite dessert of there is was this small chocolate passion fruit. Chocolate on the outside and a gooey fruity jam on the inside. Very yummy!
Now while the presentation and the food was for the most part excellent, we did feel rather rushed through the whole 20 course process. In fact, towards the end of the dinner they had messed up on one of our courses. I guess they miscounted how many of the desserts to make and we were left with one less dessert. When we informed them they were very nice about it and gave us a glass of wine, but we decided to wait a little longer for them to prepare this dessert for us.
We figured since we were spending a lot of money we wanted to try every single one of the courses, because why not? We ended up waiting for well over a half hour and we were the last two remaining at the restaurant. It completely killed the mood of the night. However, they did somewhat make it up by giving us extra of my favorite desserts in a to go bag for us to take home.
Overall, would I give this a three Michelin star? I don’t think it is worth the accolades to which it still lays claim. I would say maybe a one Michelin star, perhaps two, but that would be stretching it. Given the price of the dinner for two people (nearly $2000), I would have expected top notch food service and no mistakes whatsoever.
Although my experience is not like everyone’s experience and mistakes are made of course. This review is of my personal experience only for that night. And while I do think the food is great, the experience itself that evening for the both of us, was left much to be desired.
Thank you for taking the time to read my Chef’s Table Brooklyn Fare review! Hopefully this gives you some insight on the restaurant if you’re interested in dining there anytime soon!
