My Review of One Michelin Star Restaurant Rezdora (NYC)

During a long weekend trip to New York City, we just had to try out the highly rated one Michelin star Italian restaurant called Rezdora. Located on the corner of 16th Street and 10th avenue in Manhattan’s Flatiron District. If you’re thinking of dining there, check out my Rezdora, NYC review below!

We stopped at this cute and cozy restaurant on our last full day in New York City. You walk down a set of stairs and you’re immediately greeted by the host in a very small waiting area. Surprisingly, they do also provide free coat check. It’s literally behind the host area – I guess they make the best out of the small space they have.

Reservations are hard to come by with this place because it s so popular. If you want to book a table with Rezdora, they open up their reservations 30 days in advance at midnight (use the Resy app or call the restaurant directly).

The restaurant itself is small and narrow but long. It spans all the way to the other end. Half way, there’s a set of stairs which I’m guessing is more seating area and where the bathrooms are located. There’s also a narrow bar area towards the front of the restaurant.

We sat in one of the booths facing the long narrow walls of the restaurant, where the tables are small and meant to seat couples (one person on each end). If you’re carrying a lot of things (like shopping bags and purses) and have a thick coat, unfortunately there’s not a lot of space to put them to the side.

Now for their menu (their lunch menu)! I was really hoping for a gnocchi dish being an Italian restaurant, and fortunately they did have one available. In addition the rest of their menu selection certainly did not disappoint either! Of course, I had to order a café, which arrived in a cute white cup and saucer with varying types of sugar balls/squares (unlike the sugar packets you’ll normally get when you order a café or latte). I absolutely loved this added touch and felt like the sugar was more fresh and less processed.

We decided to try out one of their Antipasti (featured below) called their Gnocco Fritto (prosciutto di parma, mortadella and pancetta) under Della Zona section of their antipasti menu. This dish is essentially puffed pillow shaped bread topped with various cured meat cuts. I’m not a mortadella fan so Michael got to enjoy that one entirely. However, I did like the prosciutto one. And the bread wasn’t crisp or brittle. It had that perfect slightly squishy texture.

We then ordered a few dishes from their Primi Pastas section of the menu. Our waiter was super nice and informative and he sold us on their MODENESE VACATIONING IN ROME dish, which is a pasta cooked in battered egg, with pepper and pieces of bacon squares. It was so delicious, similar in taste to a carbonara dish but slightly eggier and not as al-dente. I loved the texture and the bacon pieces were the right amount of savory and salt.

Our other dish was a sort of Gnocchi dish (I believe it is called GNOCCHI DEL BOSCO on their brunch menu) but the gnocchi is made with either buckwheat or whole wheat (honestly can’t remember, sorry!) a green spinach-type sauce and bits of meat. Another amazing dish with lots of flavor and not too salty. We really enjoyed both dishes.

At this point we were getting pretty full but had forgotten that we ordered one more dish because the waiter suggested we try it. I slowly sipped at my cappuccino while I waited for our last dish to be served.

It finally arrived! Our third dish was their VERDE ON VERDE ON VERDE – a dish implying tons of “greens” – green ravioli, green pesto sauce, and green spinach at the bottom. The sauce I believe was a tomato base one. The dish came with three large raviolis topped with parmesan. Again, another amazing dish and I’m glad we got to order and try it despite being nearly full from the food we already ate.

Unfortunately we decided to forgo dessert as our eyes had been bigger than our stomachs and we were full from all the deliciousness.

Would I rate this a 1 Michelin star? Hands down! The service was great, the environment was warm and welcoming albeit small, but hey, its New York City, you work with what you’ve got! We thought our waiter was great and engaging. His recommendations were total wins! I would absolutely come back to Redoza and I’d love to try their dinner menu if we ever get the opportunity to come back and visit NYC again. Their warm pasta dishes certainly hit the spot for a cold New York afternoon. I especially loved the gnocchi dish (always down to try gnocchi if I see it on a menu!) and their tagliatelle dish was surprisingly very good! I’m not a carbonara fan but this dish was something else.

If you’re in the neighborhood, go try out Rezdora. Make sure to call and reserve as far in advance as you can because it is a very popular spot (and I can certainly see why!). Hope you enjoyed my Rezdora NYC review and that it entices you to check them out!
