Beware of DHGate’s Order Transfer Service

In the world of online shopping, DHGate has gained popularity for its vast array of products and competitive prices. However, as with any platform, shoppers need to be aware of the features offered and make informed decisions. One such feature that has raised concerns among users is DHGate’s Order Transfer Service.

Personally, DHGate has grown on me. I actually prefer it over Aliexpress on certain items that I look for. For example, I much prefer DHGate when it comes to buying designer inspired jewelry than Aliexpress because DHGate is less stringent and their search makes it easier to find what I’m looking for.

However, one feature I found out quickly (thankfully) is their order transfer service. And after much research on the web, I decided to never use this feature going forward.

Understanding DHGate’s Order Transfer Service

DHGate Understanding the Order Transfer Service

DHGate’s Order Transfer Service is designed to streamline the order fulfillment process. When a customer places an order, the system may automatically transfer it to another seller if the original seller is unable to fulfill the order promptly. While this may seem like a convenient solution to potential delays, there are several reasons why users should think twice before opting into this service.

Lack of Control Over Sellers

One of the main drawbacks of the Order Transfer Service is the loss of control over the seller. When your order is transferred to a different seller, you may end up dealing with a seller you did not choose. This means you lose the ability to vet the seller’s reputation, reviews, and product quality – elements crucial to ensuring a satisfactory shopping experience.

Still not convinced? Read some of these reddit horror stories on those who did choose to stick with DHGate’s order transfer service and what they ultimately received when their order wasn’t fulfilled by the first seller:

Quality Assurance Concerns

When your order is transferred, there’s a risk that the new seller may not adhere to the same quality standards as the original one. DHGate’s vetting process for its sellers may not be uniform, leading to potential discrepancies in product quality, authenticity, or adherence to specifications. This lack of consistency can result in a disappointing purchase.

Communication Challenges

Order Transfer Service may also lead to communication challenges. If issues arise with your order, you may find it more challenging to communicate with a seller you didn’t initially choose. Effective communication is crucial for resolving problems, obtaining information about your order, or seeking refunds – and this can become complicated when dealing with a different seller.

How to Opt out of DHGate’s Order Transfer Service

If you only want to remove this option from a single purchase, the easiest way is to head over to your Orders page. Find your order on that page, and you should see a button that says “abandon order transfer service”. Click on this to opt out. If you do not cancel out within 7 days (see the date above the Cancel Order button) then your order will likely be transferred and shipped by a seller that sells that same or similar item of lower quality.

You can also do the same on the DHGate mobile app. The first two screenshots show how one can opt out of the order transfer service on an individual purchase. If you want to opt out entirely on all purchases going forward, you can do this by turning off the highlighted setting shown in the third screenshot below. Go to your Settings page to view this. This can only be done on the mobile app.

Why Opting Out Is a Wise Choice

Given the potential risks and uncertainties associated with DHGate’s Order Transfer Service, my recommendation is that opting out is a good decision for users. Personally, I think that there are more negatives to having the Order Transfer Service active on your order than opting out. Here are a few steps you can take to ensure a more controlled and satisfactory shopping experience:

Manually Select Sellers

Instead of relying on automatic order transfers, manually choose sellers with positive reviews, high ratings, and a track record of customer satisfaction.

Communicate Directly

Opting out of the Order Transfer Service allows you to communicate directly with the seller you’ve chosen. This ensures clear and effective communication in case any issues arise during the order fulfillment process.
