Best Stores for Affordable Quality Furniture That will never go out of style

Everyone wants to save money, and we all know that good things generally come with a hefty price tag. Finding stylish and quality furniture at wallet-friendly prices is like discovering a hidden treasure chest. This is why I put together a list of places on where to find affordable furniture that will often stay in-style and not hurt your pockets.

Finding furniture can be daunting. There’s just too many places and a ton of selections to choose from which can be overbearing and hard to make the right choice. My approach has been to narrow your selection down to at least a few places that provide furniture that will last for years and stay in-style. I usually look for solid wood (as opposed to particle wood – *ahem* IKEA *ahem*) and thick, well-woven fabrics. Here’s a few places I like to shop at that I know offer what I am looking for.

Overstock

The name says it all – Overstock (now Bed Bath & Beyond) is your go-to destination for discounted furniture that’s, well, overstocked. This online store offers a wide range of furniture styles, from contemporary to vintage, all at seriously reduced prices. Keep an eye out for their flash sales and clearance events for even bigger savings. Overstock is great if you’re looking to purchase a few items around Black Friday. If not, I’d recommend waiting to make all your purchases around then and pair it up with the Overstock’s O Club.

If you’re interested in joining Overstock’s O Club, I’ve got a blog post explaining how the benefits outweigh the small yearly fee of the O Club.

Wayfair

Next up, we have the virtual wonderland of furniture deals – Wayfair. This online retailer offers a mind-boggling selection of furniture options at various price points. Whether you’re looking for a chic coffee table or a comfy recliner, Wayfair’s vast inventory is sure to have something that catches your eye.

Target

Believe it or not, your favorite go-to store for snacks and cleaning supplies is also a hidden gem for discounted furniture. Target’s “Threshold” and “Project 62” lines offer trendy furniture pieces that won’t drain your bank account. Plus, their frequent sales and deals make it even more wallet-friendly.

HomeGoods

If you’re a fan of treasure hunts, HomeGoods is the place to be. This discount store is like a jackpot of unique furniture finds. While their inventory varies, you can stumble upon incredible deals on everything from accent chairs to statement mirrors. Just be prepared to visit regularly and keep an open mind!

HomeGoods is one of my favorite stores to casually visit if I happen to be near one while I’m out running errands. They’re especially great for large accent single furniture pieces such as sideboards, end tables, small couches and love seats. Don’t be shocked at the sticker tags for some of these items because you’re still saving a lot compared to their original price tag. Also, their pieces tend to be of high quality – made with solid wood and high end fabrics.

Thrift Stores and Flea Markets

Ah, the thrill of the thrift store and flea market hunt! These treasure troves are perfect for those who love a vintage or eclectic vibe. You never know what you might stumble upon – a beautifully worn-in leather sofa or a mid-century modern dresser begging for a second chance.

If you’re into putting a little elbow in your furniture, then thrift stores are a great place to find unique, vintage pieces that are of high quality. There are tons of tutorials an videos showing you how to buff down, sand and repaint furniture to your liking.

Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist

Don’t underestimate the power of your local online community. Both Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are fantastic platforms for finding secondhand furniture at a fraction of the original cost. While you might need to do a bit of searching, you can uncover some real gems from people who are looking to offload quality pieces.

Similar to thrift stores, Facebook market place has some great finds of vintage and solid wood quality pieces. While they might need some tender love and care, the great thing about reviving the pieces you find is that you can make them to your own style.

Amazon Home

Yes, you read that right – Amazon isn’t just for electronics and books anymore. Their Amazon Home section boasts an impressive array of affordable furniture that covers everything from bedroom to living room essentials. You’ll be amazed at the variety of styles available, and the convenience of online shopping means you can easily browse and compare options. I personally think that Amazon is great for small accent furniture pieces (not so much large dressers or sets). And what’s even better is that Amazon will suggest accent pieces to go with your furniture. Thanks to their collaboration with influencers, you can get great ideas on how to style your furniture with accent decor and color options!

Costco

If you have a membership (or a gift card to get access into Costco), I recommend checking out Costco. When it comes to merging quality and affordability, Costco’s Thomasville selection takes the cake. I was pleasantly surprised by the array of classic and elegant furniture options that this big-box store had to offer. From plush sofas to sleek dining sets, Thomasville nails that timeless aesthetic we all crave. The best part? You don’t have to sacrifice your savings account for a touch of sophistication. The prices are reasonable, and the durability is top-notch, making this line a clear winner in my book. Thomasville is usually made with real, solid wood pieces with quality details such as dovetail joints in drawers.

These are my top picks for finding discounted furniture that won’t blow your budget. At the very least you should check them out as they might provide some inspiration when searching for furniture pieces. If you’re looking to buy right out-of-the-box furniture, look at places like Amazon Home, Wayfair or Overstock. If you are willing to go a little higher in price but still want a large discount and know you’re getting top of the line furniture, then HomeGoods or Costco are great options! And for those of you that love to put a little work in restoring furniture that still have some life left in them, I”d recommend checking out your local thrift store or Facebook Marketplace.

Remember, it’s all about patience, persistence, and a keen eye for a great deal. Happy hunting, and may your furniture-finding adventures be fruitful and budget-friendly!
